What to expect, and how we know.
How much weight will I lose?
In the main trial, people on the highest dose lost 20.9% of their body weight on average after 72 weeks. Results vary from person to person. Use the goal calculator to see a date for your own goal.
Is tirzepatide better than semaglutide?
In a head-to-head trial, tirzepatide beat semaglutide: 20.2% against 13.7% of body weight lost at 72 weeks. That is about 47% more. Read the full comparison.
How does it work?
Tirzepatide acts on two gut hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. The effect is less hunger, feeling full sooner and steadier blood sugar. Eating less stops being a fight. The science page explains more.
Where do the figures come from?
From two published trials. SURMOUNT-1 (NEJM, 2022) found 20.9% at the highest dose after 72 weeks. SURMOUNT-5 (NEJM, 2025) compared tirzepatide with semaglutide.
Is a result guaranteed?
No. Results vary. Trial figures are averages, not promises. The goal tool shows an optimistic pace. It assumes you take every weekly dose and step up as planned.

The treatment and side effects
What you inject, how often, and what to watch for.
What is tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide is the weight-loss treatment. It arrives as sealed weekly injections, one each week.
How often do I take it?
One injection a week, at home. It takes about a minute. The quick-start guide in your box shows you each step.
Does the injection hurt?
Most people barely feel it. The needle is very fine and goes just under the skin of your tummy or thigh.
What doses are there?
You start on 2.5 mg. You can step up every 4 weeks: 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, then 15 mg. You step up when you are ready, not before.
What are the common side effects?
Feeling sick, feeling full, constipation and diarrhoea. They are usually mild and fade over weeks. Starting on 2.5 mg and stepping up slowly helps.
When should I get urgent help?
Go to the nearest hospital straight away for severe stomach pain that won't go away, signs of an allergic reaction, or severe dehydration. Do not wait. More on the safety page.
Does it affect the contraceptive pill?
It can. Tirzepatide can change how well the pill works. Use a barrier method, such as condoms, for 4 weeks after you start and after each dose step.
Can I take it with anything else I take?
Tell us everything you take when you answer the questions. We look more closely at people on insulin or sulfonylureas. It may still be fine.
What if I miss a dose?
Your quick-start guide explains what to do. Do not take two doses together to catch up.
Is it safe?
Like any treatment, it has side effects, and it is not right for everyone. That is why we check your answers before anything is sent. If it isn't safe for you, you get a full refund.
